I am a 12 year old 7th grader at Liberty Middle School in Powell, OH. I am also a rock climber and feel fortunate to have found climbing and the lifestyle that comes with it which has allowed me to travel all over the country from Flagstaff, Arizona to Atlanta, Georgia and countless places in between.
Climbing, it is what I think about day and night. Most of my days consist of training, competing, climbing for pure fun, watching videos, reading magazines and surfing the web for the latest sends. While my friends talk about Aaron Rodgers, Steph Curry, LeBron James I'm wondering what Alex Megos, Daniel Woods, and Chris Sharma are doing.
My dad is the reason why I started climbing in the first place. He introduced me into the sport when I was probably about 6, and I climbed on and off for 3 years until I started competing. In my 3 1/2 years of competing I've made it to nationals 3 times.
I primarily train with my dad, but I have been fortunate to be coached by great teachers like with Emily Taylor, Justin Sjong, Kenny Barker (Equipped Pure Imagination), Grady Bagwell (multi-time national champ) and Shane Messer.
I'm a climber and my shoes are my tools. I tried out the Acros and loved how they felt on my feet and the way that they stuck to wall no matter the angle or foothold. Having a climbing shoe that envelopes your foot in sticky rubber really helps out in those situations where the feet are questionable.
Some of my other favorite climbs include Chainsaw Massacre 12a, Primus Noctum 12a, Check your grip 12a, Gung Ho 12b, Snooker 13a, Easy Rider 13a, and Elephant Man 13b. Some of the outdoor climbs on my tick list include Jesus Wept 12d, Convicted 13a, Table of Colors 13a, Flour Power 13b, and maybe working on Gods own Stone 14a.
While some people feel like they have to choose between being an indoor or outdoor climber, I see the positive aspects of both. I appreciate the indoor facilities and the ability to train year round for projects I have outside all over the country.
